About the firm
Twenty years next to the courthouse.
Harlan & Reese Law opened its doors in 2004 in a two-room office on Hanover Street, one block from the Cumberland County Courthouse. Robert Harlan and Catherine Reese had both spent years at larger regional firms and arrived at the same conclusion: their clients deserved more direct attention than a big practice typically allows.
Two decades later, the firm has grown to a team of four, but the model is unchanged. Every client is handled by a named attorney, not handed off to a junior associate or lost in a caseload of hundreds. We know the local courts, the local judges, and the pace of life that shapes our clients' decisions.
We are straightforward about what cases will cost, what they involve, and what outcomes are realistic. If there's a simpler path, like mediation over litigation or a standard form over a custom draft, we'll say so. Our goal is to resolve your matter well, not to extend it.

Client words
Trusted by our neighbors.
“Catherine guided us through our estate planning with such patience. We left the office understanding every document and feeling genuinely at ease. That's not easy to do.”
“Robert handled my car accident case and settled for more than I thought possible. He was honest with me the whole way through and never made me feel like just a file number.”
“Went through a difficult divorce. Daniel was thorough, responsive, and kept me focused on what mattered most, my kids. I can't recommend this firm enough.”
